Humane Shelter

The Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter is a non-profit organization founded to improve the lives of Toccoa-Stephens County four-legged residents.  The shelter is located at 1747 Scenic Drive (next to the old county jail) and is open from 11 to 5 Tuesday through Friday and 11 to 4 on Saturday.  Call 706-282-3275 for more information.

Stephens County and the City of Toccoa governments joined forces to construct the state-of-the-art Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter for abandoned and neglected strays in the Toccoa-Stephens County area.

Stray dogs and cats are kept for five days, or longer if room is available.  We accept owner surrender of pets from Stephens County residents, we do ask owners for a donation to help provide for the animals that are surrendered to the shelter.

Adoption fees include spay or neuter, Fiv/FeLv testing for cats and heart worm testing for dogs, de-worming, vaccinations, flea treatment, heart worm preventative (dogs), rabies vaccination (if old enough) and microchipping.

Adoption fees are $100 for Adult Dogs, $150 for Puppies, $75 for Adult Cats and $100 for Kittens, $60 for Senior Dogs (age 7 and older) and $30 for Senior Cats (age 5 and older).

The Humane Shelter is focused on lowering over-population and prevention of abuse.  Its mission is to improve the lives of animals, alleviate their suffering, and elevate their status in the community.  The Humane Shelter safeguards, rescues, shelters, heals, adopts and advocates for animals in need, while inspiring community action and compassion on their behalf.

The non-profit 501c3 organization provides a Humane Animal Shelter and Adoption Center serving the City of Toccoa and Stephens County.  The shelter provides pet adoptions, information about low cost spay/neuter services, lost and found services, animal control sheltering of stray animals, educational programs and community outreach.
